Politics and Motherhood

As we all know by now, on January 20th a new president will be occupying the White House. Barack Obama will be a historical president based mainly on his race, however, I hope there is more to him.

I will be up front ... I did not vote for him. Still, I have hope that he will do a good job and protect families, our economy, and the safety of our nation. Since we know very little about his general decision making on these issues, I will be praying that God use Obama as He sees fit. There is a purpose in the election of this man. What it is, we don't yet know.

As a mom, how does politics affect me on a daily basis? If what I do understand about Obama's politics actually happens, then it affects me quite directly. How I take my daughter to the doctor, what the groceries will cost, how well my husband's small business will do, and the values I teach my daughter may all be affected.

On the other hand, it could be politics as usual ... Most of my life will not change. I will have the right to go to church weekly, I can still have my private insurance, and my husband and his partner can decide how to run their business. I think as Americans, for the most part, we want the government to allow us to live our lives as we would like. We'll see if that continues or not.

In the mean time, I will pray. I will pray that Barack Obama prays too. I will pray for Obama to be surrounded by inteligent and humble advisors.

Lessons Learned: Sometimes change is necessary and hopefully we learn a lot from it.
